A Multi-Perspective Study on German Language Support II (MULTI-PERS II)
The Project
The study MULTI-PERS II builds on the predecessor study MULTI-PERS I, which demonstrated, among other things, that the legally prescribed support measures are implemented highly inconsistently across schools and that many of the presumed negative effects—such as academic delays or a lack of social inclusion—are indeed evident in practice.
Building on this, MULTI-PERS II investigates the long-term impact of various German language support measures on the academic, linguistic, and social development of children. The focus lies on the perspectives of different stakeholders and the question of under which conditions language support can be successful.
Guiding Research Questions
The focus is on the perspectives of various stakeholders—and the question of the conditions under which language support can succeed. Key questions include:
- How do students, parents, and teachers perceive social interaction, academic self-concept, school-based well-being, and linguistic development?
- What educational and future perspectives emerge from the viewpoint of the students themselves—and what aspirations do parents and teachers express?
- How do teachers, school administrators, and stakeholders evaluate the implementation of the support measures to date—and what ideas and approaches for the further development of language support arise from this?
- How do these perceptions and experiences change over time?
